A good school with outstanding features (Source: Ofsted 2011)
Abbey College is an exciting and rewarding place to be, with its magnificent and spacious campus, we are proud to serve our local community. We have some excellent facilities and inspired initiatives that have transformed the College into one of the most improved secondary schools in Cambridgeshire.
Standards of achievement have risen significantly since Abbey College opened in September 2006.
At GCSE, there has been a sustained improvement, and students achieving 5 A* – C grades including English and Maths has risen to 59%. More importantly, the percentage of students achieving three levels of progress or more in English and Maths at GCSE is at a record breaking 72% for each subject, and the percentage of students achieving the English Baccalauriate subjects has doubled to 20%.
At A level in 2013, 68% of students achieved higher grades and a record breaking 28% of A2 were at grade A*-A, well above the national average. A large percentage of Post 16 students make applications to University including Oxford and Cambridge and the overwhelming majority of these students are successful in gaining their first choice place.
Abbey College was the first school in Cambridgeshire to receive the full IAG (Information and Guidance) Award. In 2009 we were also awarded Arts Mark Silver and the Inclusion Quality Mark. We are also the first secondary school in Cambridgeshire to achieve the Leading Parent Partnership Award.
Abbey College is a large 11-18 mixed non-selective Academy. For entry into Year 7 at the College, parents must complete the LA preference form and return it to the child’s primary school by the date published in the booklet ‘Admissions to secondary schools in Cambridgeshire – a guide for parents’. Admissions are made on the basis of criteria set out in the full College Policy available to view on the school website.
Admissions during the year can be made by contacting the Cambridgeshire Admissions Team on 01223 699202.
Parents are welcome any time to make an appointment to come into the College to discuss matters with the Headteacher and look around. More specifically, an Open Evening is held each year in the Autumn Term to which all parents who are considering sending their children to the College are invited.
Abbey College is a Specialist College for innovation and has a reputation for excellent student behaviour and developing policies to engage students and help them aspire.
A vertical mentoring system was introduced in 2011 and this is already having a beneficial impact on student relationships and leadership.
The above also features strongly in work within our community including our family of primary schools, the extended schools programme, local businesses and learning for adults.
Primary Partnership – ASCA
Abbey College is very proud to be part of a family of successful local schools and we work in very close partnership with all our local primary colleagues. The ASCA (Abbey Schools Catchment Area) partnership provides continuous education from 4-18 for all students in Ramsey and the surrounding villages.
