Simply put, high attendance leads to good results.
Our expectation is that students’ attendance should aim to be at 95% or above. Even at this level missing 5% of Year 12 would be the equivalent of 41 taught hours lost for a student studying 4 AS levels. Failure to maintain a sufficiently high level of attendance (other than for genuine reasons), could lead to students being asked to pay for their exam entries or ultimately leave Abbey College. We operate a three tiered warning system for attendance and we will contact parents.
Year 13 students are expected to sign in and out of the library with Mrs Britton to make sure our registers are accurate in the event of a fire. Year 12 pupils are expected to be on site at all times, except lunch, when they can sign out using the book in Cafe 6. In addition students or their parents/carers are asked to phone the college if students are unwell. If an absence is known in advance, students are asked to complete an absence form.
To be successful in the Sixth Form students need to be completing all homework and spending at least 4 hours outside of the classroom, per subject per week. The college provides study skills support via the dedicated sixth form tutors. Students are expected to use their time in school to work and make use of the resources available.
