Key Stage 3

The Key Stage 3 curriculum consists of the units outlined below. These cover a wide range of practical and theory skills, material knowledge, mathematical and manufacturing processes techniques. Pupils will develop their strengths in these identified key areas before moving each term onto another focussed set of skills.
Assessment: All assessments are completed in class in order to build up vital skills required for success at GCSE level. Pupils are made aware of what they are being assessed on and how they are assessed early on in the unit.  These assessments are based on 4 Assessment Objectives (AO’s) which have been devised from the GCSE specifications, a copy if which can be found at the front of your child’s orange work books.

Key Stage 4

At Key Stage 4, the BTEC Engineering course is examined and assessed by Edexcel. Across the key stage, the skills introduced to pupils throughout Key Stage 3 are developed. Students will cover Machining Techniques and Product Investigation. Students will also study for their Engineering world exam which some will take early in year 10.

Assessment:

66% - Coursework folders both Unit 2 and Unit 7
33% - Externally set 1 hour Exam to be taken at Year 11 or earlier if applicable

Where does this lead?:

Students could continue to study Engineering at post 16 through; an A level Edexcel Engineering course, an Apprenticeship route or BTEC Level 3 at College.

Following a post 16 course some students may complete an Engineering Degree in their chosen Engineering Sector.

Future careers include: Being an Engineer in the Aerospace, Automotive, Communications, Electrical/Electronics, Mechanical, Biomedical or chemical Industries

The Engineering Industry is a growing sector in the UK, especially in Cambridgeshire, where there is high demand for young engineers in the Civil and Mechanical/Electrical sectors.
