Abbey College will:

  • Provide a safe, welcoming learning environment, which celebrates endeavour, diversity and equality.
  • Provide a balanced and challenging curriculum allowing each student to excel and to develop his or her skills and interests.
  • Provide parents/carers with timely records and information about their child's educational progress and general development.
  • Set challenging expectations for students to aspire to and review them regularly.
  • Contact home to praise and reward students’ success.
  • Contact home if there are concerns about a student’s behaviour, effort, attendance, or if students are detained for longer than 30 minutes after the end of the school day.
  • Give parents/carers opportunities for meetings with staff and efficiently respond to their enquiries.
  • Keep parents/carers fully informed about important school matters through good communication and the ‘Weekly Update’.
  • Provide a Learning Framework that promotes positive learning dispositions.

Parents/carers will:

  • Support the schools approach to behaviour, standards and uniform, including: a) up to 30 minute detentions without notice at 1.30pm; b) same day severe incident after-school detentions until 5:15pm once informed parent/carer.
  • Encourage their child to be positive about all aspects of school.
  • Ensure their child attends school every day and is punctual, unless they are ill.
  • Contact the school as soon as possible in the event of any issues that may affect their child while at school.
  • Ensure their child has the correct learning equipment including PE kit.
  • Provide a suitable environment for their child to learn at home.
  • Attend consultation and other school events.
  • Encourage their child to try a broad range of additional activities from those on offer.
  • Contact the House Office with any emergency contact detail changes immediately.
  • Regularly access Show My Homework and support the completion of Learning Development (homework) tasks set.
  • Complete and return the permission slip in the student planner regarding the collection of student data.

Students will:

  • Try their best in all things, at all times.
  • Be an active member of Abbey College by; abiding by ASPIRE, participating in extra-curricular and leadership opportunities.
  • Strive to be their best self and actively try to beat their personal best through the Ipsative Learner Scale.
  • Aim for 100% attendance and be punctual to lessons.
  • Complete their Learning Development to the highest standard and hand it in on time.
  • Treat all our community with respect and tolerance.
  • Keep their exercise books and learning up-to-date. Ensure it is tidy and populated with the most recent targets.
  • Be a positive role model and eat in designated areas, use bins for litter and keep the site tidy, use appropriate language and walk in corridors exercising a library voice.
  • Support others in Abbey College and the wider community.
  • Exercise self-discipline and take responsibility for their safety and actions including the use of mobile phones and technology.
  • Keep passwords safe and confidential.
  • Take letters and messages home and deliver them to parents/carers.
