Blended Learning during a local lockdown or when self-isolating
In the event of a local lockdown, some students may be asked to stay at home or to attend school on a rotational basis and engage in blended learning.
What will the school day look like if my child is learning from home?
Local lockdown: If a year whole group is asked to learn from home, students in that year group will follow their normal timetable. All lessons including Form Time, will start at their usual time. However, Form Time will be reduced to 20 minutes and each lesson will be reduced to 40 minutes, in order to limit excessive screen time. Your child’s teachers will be live on Microsoft Teams according to usual lesson times. Learning tasks will be in several forms, including through videos, presentations, written tasks, quizzes and exam style questions. What are the expectations of my child during remote learning?
Students at home must log in to Microsoft Teams at 8.40am each morning to register and complete the form time activity. Students are expected to attend each online lesson at the start of the lesson, according to their usual timetable. Work completed should be uploaded electronically, so that the teacher can keep a record of the work submitted and give feedback accordingly. This may not be on the same day as the lesson.
How will attendance be monitored at home?
Abbey College will monitor attendance in line with the Attendance Policy. If your child is unwell and unable to complete the work, please email your child’s teacher or Raising Standards Lead. Any work that is missed will remain on the class team so that it can be completed, once they feel better. The lesson will also be recorded, so students can revisit it if necessary.

Part 2. Self-Isolation
What will the school day look like if my child is learning from home?
Self-isolation: In the event of your child having to self-isolate at home, they should follow their timetable in the same way as they would in the event of a local lockdown. Teachers will set tasks on Microsoft Teams each day and students will be expected to complete all tasks set and to upload the work onto MS Teams. Teachers will check the work that is handed in and give feedback, as they become available. All students self-isolating at home should log in to Microsoft Teams by 9.00am each morning to check and complete assignments or work that is set. Work should be completed daily according to your child’s timetable and uploaded electronically on to the class team, so that the teacher can keep a record of the work submitted and give feedback when they are available. This may not be on the same day as the lesson.
How will attendance be monitored at home?
If your child has been sent home from school to self-isolate, there is no need to contact us daily to let us know. However, if your child becomes unwell and therefore unable to access learning, please email the attendance office to let us know. If your child develops symptoms of COVID please also report this to the attendance office by emailing .
